Athletics Series
If the Cubs could play every single game in Sacramento I enjoy every single game. The ball refused to stay inside the ballpark leading to the Cubs outscoring the A's 35-9 in the series.
- Game 1
In the first game of the series vs the A's it might'v been the easiest watch as a Cubs fan this season. The Cubs had 21 hits, six doubles, a triple, and four homers. Not only was the hitting fantastic, but the pitching staff controlled the game as well.
I can't get over the hitting performance so I will start there. Kyle Tucker (2), Carson Kelly, Dansby Swanson, Pete Crow-Armstrong, and Seiya Suzuki had doubles. Carson Kelly had a triple. Then four Cubbies hit a long ball; Carson Kelly, Dansby Swanson, Kyle Tucker, and Seiya Suzuki.
Carson Kelly had the first cycle in a Cubs uniform since Mark Grace in 1993, Kelly broke the 32 year drought on March 31, 2025 and cemented himself in Cubs history forever. But the best part of this game is the Cubs found their superstar... Kyle Tucker is everything the Cubs needed to make a push this season. All of the Cam Smith riders were silenced after Tucker had 4-7 at the dish, had two doubles, a homer, and three RBIs while also playing a great right field.
The pitching staff also had their first good performance of the season as a complete staff. Ben Brown went 5 innings gave up six hits, three runs, but had five strikeouts. Then Merryweather and Rae came in and shut down the rest of the game giving up zero runs, leading the Cubs to an 18-3 W.
- Game 2
Game two the bats stayed hot, but Kyle Tucker and Seiya Suzuki led the way. Tucker went 2-3 with a long ball and a double. Seiya went 2-5 with a homer and 3 RBIs.
Dansby Swanson has been the captain he has always been early in this season as well, he's played fantastic defense at short, and also added a double and a RBI.
This game was another fun one at the plate as eight out of the ten hitters who stepped in the box for the Cubbies had hits.
The folks on Cubs twitter were not impressed, but I saw the perfect tweet saying "Justin Steele is the best 'man he's struggling' pitcher in baseball" as he went 6.2 innings gave up 4 runs... but continues to give up homers. Nonetheless Steele looked decent, then Merryweather, Hodge, and Pressly came in to shut down the A's getting the Cubs a 7-4 W.
-Game 3
Game three was dominated by Seiya Suzuki and the Cubs offense for a third straight game. Seiya hit two home runs, the first one being a bomb and the second one being a wall scraper... still a homer though. He ended game 3 vs the Athletics 3-5 with 5 RBIs.
We also saw Matt Shaw and Pete Crow-Armstrong come alive in the bottom of the lineup, they combined for three RBIs (Shaw 2/ PCA 1), then also had two hits a piece with Pete Crow-Armstrong having a double.
The Cubs pitching staff had an amazing series in Sacramento. Jameson Taillon went six inning, gave up four hits, two runs, and had seven strikeouts. He looked incredible other than a small two run hiccup in the third. The bullpen also finally produced in this series too. Keller, Pearson, and Morgan pitched an inning a piece for the final three innings of the game, combining for 1 hit given up and zero runs.
All in all, great series, zero stress and huge wins. GCG. Play the Song!
