Cubs (1-3, 0-0 NL C) win 10-6 over the Diamondbacks (0-1, 0-0 NL W) and take the first of the four game series.

The Diamondbacks started the game with an early lead as Josh Naylor (AZ) hit in Ketel Marte (AZ) in his first at bat for his new squad. (0-1)

The Cubs had an answer as in the top of the second Ian Happ  hit a two out, two RBI, double to bring in Pete Crow-Armstrong and Matt Shaw. (2-1)

But the two out scoring didn't stop there as Kyle Tucker brought in Happ with a single. (3-1)

If you took the over in this game you were happy early, in the bottom of the second Eugenio Suarez (AZ) hits one to the fans making it 3-2.

Ian Happ stayed hot in Phoenix, hitting his first homer of the season in the top of the 4th. (4-2)

But the D-Backs wouldn't give in, Geraldo Perdomo (AZ) got his first RBI in the bottom half of the fourth. (4-3)

Miguel Amaya had all the responses to every Diamondback score, as the Cubs added 3 more to their total in the top of the 5th when Amaya came up to the plate with bases loaded, clearing them with a double. (7-3)

Scoring didn't stop there, in the top of the 6th, Nico Hoerner also added an RBI to his name hitting in Seiya Suzuki (8-3). In the bottom of the 6th the D-Backs loaded the bases with no outs, Jake McCarthy (AZ) and Geraldo Perdomo (AZ) both hit a sacrifice flies cutting into the Cubs lead. (8-5)

As the game was wrapping up Amaya added two more RBIs, giving the Cubs the insurance they needed as Hoerner and Shaw scored (10-5). The Diamondbacks could not catch up at that point only adding one more run in the 9th.

What a fun and needed night for Cubs fans. After what felt like a lifetime the Cubs show some life. All offseason the conversations have been about this 85-90 win team that is supposed to dominant the NL Central... well tonight we saw that team. On both sides the Cubs played good baseball. After such a rough last two games the focus is the positives.

When you score ten runs its very easy to win baseball games, and the bottom half of the Cubs lineup had a fantastic game. The quote unquote "hitters" of the team Kyle Tucker and Seiya Suzuki had quiet nights, but their places as hitters were replaced quickly by Ian Happ and Miguel Amaya in game one of the series against Arizona.

The bats were fantastic, and the defensive was good as well. Two plays come to mind when I think of this game. Play one, when Shaw hit into a routine double play, but Pete Crow-Armstrong beat out the throw to second. He was fired up showing emotion and that lit a fire under the team. Following the bases were loaded leading to the base clearing double by Amaya. Second, is when Josh Naylor (AZ) hit into a double play. The throw to Swanson was offline, he recovered threw over to 1st on his hip and completed the double play.

The only "issue" the Cubs had last night was from pitching, with that being said, they did everything they needed to do to get raise the flag. The bullpen struggles continue to show again this year though. After pulling Steele going into the 6th we saw Pearson in the 6th, Theilbar in the 7th, Hodge in the 8th, and Pressly in the 9th.

Pearson's night did not start great as his first three batters he faced were walked, hit, and walked. He did get out of the jam only giving up two off of sacrifice flies, but in a closer contest this could lead to trouble.

Porter Hodge came into the game in the 8th inning, while he didn't have much control of his fastball, he had complete control of his slider and used it to his advantage. Two of the three outs in his one inning outing came via the strike out. If I could make a prediction on this season it would be the Porter Hodge will become the main closer...

Great win for the Cubs as the beat the Diamondbacks 10-6 in the desert. They stay in Arizona for Friday's game starting at 8:40 CT. GCG. Play the song!
